Webinar #2 Lead from Where You Are and How to be a Good Influencer
Being a good influencer means you don’t need a leadership position to make a leadership impact. You influence your environment, your team, your peers – right from your current role. Leadership is more about attitude and actions than job titles.
The Challenge:
You may not always have formal power or a title, so it can be hard to get people to listen or take you seriously. People may question your intentions or wonder, “Who are you to lead?” Especially if they see you as a peer or junior. Without a leadership role, you might not have access to tools, budgets, or decision-making platforms. And, imposter syndrome may hit hard. You might wonder if your voice matters or if you’re stepping out of line.
The Impact (of Not Addressing It):
Organizations as a whole may find innovation, creativity, and progress slow down because no one’s stepping up. Personally, when you want to lead or influence but feel blocked or ignored, it leads to frustration or burnout. Workplaces can become toxic if positive influencers stay silent and louder (but less constructive) voices fill the space. And in the long run, if people don’t develop leadership skills early on, it makes the jump into actual leadership roles harder later.
Learning Outcomes:
- Learn effective communication and influence techniques
- Consider strategies for taking initiative and owning outcomes, even in the absence of formal authority.
- Craft a plan to manage upward and sideways influence
- Navigate resistance and setbacks with resilience and emotional regulation.
